From Immigrant to Army Veteran to Education Leader

Angelo Carvalho’s Journey of Service and Determination

Angelo Carvalho immigrated to the United States from Thailand at age seven with a lifelong goal to serve in the U.S. Army and pursue higher education. He fulfilled that dream by serving over 22 years in the military, retiring in 2014 as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) with multiple combat deployments. In 2000, he joined the Military Police Corps, where he gained training in law, human rights, and public safety procedures.

While in the military service, Angelo earned an associate degree from the University of Phoenix, and later graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture in 2019. His academic journey came with challenges, but he persevered and completed his degrees with determination.

Angelo has held leadership roles in public service, including serving as a Planning Commissioner, and the youngest Chairman on the board, for the City of North Las Vegas. He is also a committed mentor, volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club and Nevada Outdoors to help guide and support the next generation.

A first-generation Thai American, veteran, entrepreneur, and college graduate, Angelo is dedicated to expanding educational opportunity and strengthening public service as a member of the Board of Regents in District 3.
